Stroke Recovery

A stroke is a serious life-changing medical event. The damage a stroke causes to the brain can disrupt the visual system. Dr. Stephey works with stroke patients as a vital member of their after-care team, helping them to rebuild their visual skills and rehabilitate their visual systems. Because there is so much more to vision than just 20/20 and healthy eyes, Dr. Stephey’s comprehensive neurodevelopmental / behavioral eye exams help stroke survivors identify treatment options that can help repair some of the damage caused by stroke. Nutrition therapy, vision therapy, and / or neuro-lenses (eyeglasses with prisms, low-plus lenses, or colored lenses) can help stroke patients improve their balance and gait problems, reduce anxiety, improve cognitive skills, increase quality of life, and speed along the recovery process. Contact Dr. Stephey to learn more about the role of vision in stroke recovery or visit our Resource page for more helpful information.
